  • Reminder: Meeting Tomorrow (Saturday) at the Energy Park, 11am

  • Solar Cities Conference in Australia SolarCitiesCongress.com.au

Dan Robinson shared a few things he learned at Solar Cities Congress 2008 in Adelaide, Australia. Pictures and pamphlets were passed around, including a large-scale concentrator system powering a Sterling engine, and a 5MW wind turbine with a helicopter pad on top of the nacelle. EcoVision has created a monitoring system to see where the most power is being consumed in a home, as well how much power is coming from photovoltaic cells when in place. Also, a solar taxi, with a trailer of solar panels to charge its batteries, was at the conference, and will be coming to the U.S. soon. We would like to show them there is interest in Gainesville for a demonstration here. Dan also mentioned there was a lot of talk about solar nano technologies and the importance of government policies/ subsidies. He will be speaking again about the conference this Thursday, March 6, at noon at the Booklover’s Café for anyone interested in hearing more.

  • Education

We will now have a small educational presentation at each meeting, and rotate through presenters. If you have topic suggestions or would like to speak, please e-mail Dan (drob22@ufl.edu). Yesterday, Alex Palomino gave a power point on how a PV cell works. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=napVP6jAZxM

  • Earth Day, Tuesday April 22

Earth Day activities include tabling on campus and a solar cookoff. We will be making individual solar cookers sometime in early April to prepare for the massive feast on Earth Day.

  • 5th Annual Arts Festival: April 19 (10am-5pm) and April 20th (noon-5pm)

ASES will participate in the 5th Annual Arts Fest again this year. There will be a focus on conservation and promoting awareness. The date is the weekend before Earth Day so several environmentally-friendly groups will participate.
